This position leverages your previous experience to allow you to grow professionally. You will have the ability to work independently on most tasks, with some guidance and supervision from senior designers, project managers, and principals. As an emerging leader within the Urban Design and Planning studio, you will also have the opportunity to provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Primary

  • Develops design alternatives with some guidance from the public realm designer/project manager.
  • Coordinates tasks/deliverables with other team members and consultants with some supervision.
  • Mentors staff on project teams and helps to facilitate a collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Works independently with clients/consultants on small projects or discrete project sections. This work may entail ensuring that scope, schedule, and budget are met. Reviews work products and project processes with project leaders.
  • May be called upon to participate in and/or lead project team meetings with clients/consultants, as well as to present at public/client meetings and workshops/charrettes.
  • Helps to plan and guide the work of small teams (1-3 staff members) or discrete project tasks.
  • Works on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Works independently or in a team environment as needed.
  • Attends to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
  • Explain plans and concepts clearly to the public, consultants, and clients.
  • Clearly and succinctly explains landscape and urban design plans and concepts to a range of audiences.
  • Possesses creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined, practical problems.

Additional

  • May facilitate group charrettes, consultant, client, and community workshops, etc.
  • May help to guide the work of internal project teams, including: interfacing with client/consultants; organizing internal workflows; ensuring that scope, schedule, and budget are met; and assisting with client invoicing.
  • Coordinates and reviews the production of project deliverables by other internal team members.
  • Organizes the production of project deliverables, including graphic content.
  • Assists with the preparation of scopes, schedules, budgets for project proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor or Master’s degree in landscape architecture.
  • Generally has 4-7 years of industry experience in a planning or design office.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and MS Office Suite required.
  • Prior experience with preparation of construction documents required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, Rhino, and Revit preferred.
  • Well-developed knowledge of landscape design best practices that can be applied to projects in collaboration with project team members.
  • Ability to communicate through verbal, written, and graphic communication formats.
  • Ability to determine the right tool for the task.
  • Ability to prioritize and evaluate multiple important tasks.
  • Established critical thinking abilities to identify strengths, weaknesses, or alternate solutions to a problem with some supervision.
  • Developing professional judgment and decision making processes to determine the most appropriate course of action.
  • Developing leadership skills that motivate and guide teams and projects to desired outcomes.
  • Hand sketching skills preferred.
